10 Great Show Tunes for Wedding Songs

Ah, L'Amour, I love weddings, don't you? One thing I particularly love seeing is the first dance between the newly formed spouses. While sometimes the songs are more well known than others, what I find interesting is that not enough couples use the wealth of show tunes out there to share their first dance.
So for anyone who might be taking their walk down the aisle, here are some of the best song suggestions for weddings songs.
"With You" - Pippin Revival Recording
"With You" is a very sweet romantic song with some fantastic lyrics. It also doesn't hurt that Matthew James Thomas' vocals set the perfect tone for any couple. It also features a great instrumental waltz section at the 2:33 mark. Just make sure that if you use this, cut the song at 3:20 otherwise it leads to a much different scene.
"I Have Dreamed" from The King & I
There is a plethora of material you could use from the Rodgers & Hammerstein catalog, but my first choice would be this great number from The King & I. And in terms of versions, can you do any better than Peabo Bryson and Lea Salonga?
"I Will Be Loved Tonight" from I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change
In the middle of this otherwise comedic and goofy take on relationships is this very sweet ballad about intimacy between couples. While the song is a bit descriptive and might not be appropriate for anyone under the age of 16 or over 70, it's a beautiful selection.
“Old Devil Moon” from Finian’s Rainbow
Quite frankly one of my favorite long songs. Great choice especially if you're wedding is outside.
"I Believe My Heart" from The Woman in White
There is a lot you could choose from Andrew Llyod Webber, but if you want to go with some a bit lesser known, I suggest this duet from The Woman in White.
"What About Love" from The Color Purple
Because first of all, it's an incredible song. Secondly, it's about all the realizations one has when they begin to fall in love, what is more beautiful than that?
"Only Love" from Zorba
Possibly the best love song Kander & Ebb ever wrote.
"So in Love" from Kiss Me Kate
If I were to get married all over again, I might have picked this song.
"The Next Ten Minutes" from The Last Five Years
Because my wife and I actually used lyrics from this in our own wedding. Can't go wrong with that right?
"In Whatever Time We Have" from Children of Eden
I love this song so much. From its melody, to the lyrics, it's message of facing life together rather than apart is what marriage is all about.
