Iconic Lyricist Sheldon Harnick has passed away at 99
Sheldon Harnick, one of the greatest lyricists of 20th Century musical theatre, passed away at the age of 99. His work with composed Jerry Bock led to some of the most important and outstanding musicals of all time.
From Fiddler on the Roof to She Loves Me to Fiorello!, Harnick and Bock worked beautifully together, and Harnick’s words because iconic.
Harnick has won three Tony Awards. In 1960, he, Bock, and Weidman tied with Rodgers and Hammerstein for Best Musical; that year, both Fiorello! and The Sound of Music won. And in 1965, Bock and Harnick's Fiddler on the Roof won both Best Musical and Best Composer and Lyricist.
Harnick received the 2016 Drama League Award for Distinguished Achievement in Musical Theatre, as well as the 2016 Special Tony Award for Lifetime Achievement in the Theatre.
