Reasons why you should absolutely attend BroadwayCon

by Chris Peterson, OnStage Blog Founder

This weekend, thousands of Broadway fans will converge on the Marriott Marquis in Times Square for BroadwayCon. The annual gathering has been going strong since 2016 and has provided many a memory for those attending.

I have very fond memories of attending the event and actually made some really close friends. I definitely recommend anyone who is a lover of all things Broadway, to attend. Here are some reasons why.

Celebration of Theatre

BroadwayCon offers a unique opportunity for fans to come together and celebrate their shared passion for theatre. It creates a sense of community among attendees who have a deep appreciation for the art form. It allows fans to express their enthusiasm, share experiences, and connect with like-minded individuals who understand and appreciate their love for theatre.

Access to Behind-the-Scenes Insights

BroadwayCon always features panels, workshops, and presentations by industry professionals, including actors, directors, designers, and technicians. These events provide a chance for attendees to gain valuable insights into the creative process, learn about the challenges faced by professionals in the field, and understand the intricate details of theatrical productions. Fans can hear firsthand stories, ask questions, and gain a deeper understanding of the craft.

This year’s programming is nothing short of amazing. Here is a link to where you can see it.

Autograph Sessions and Meet-and-Greets

One of the highlights of BroadwayCon is the chance to meet actors, performers, and other industry professionals. Autograph sessions and meet-and-greets allow fans to interact with their favorite artists, take photos, and get memorabilia signed. These personal interactions can create lasting memories for fans and provide a sense of connection to the performers and their work. This year, folks such as Ben Cameron, L. Morgan Lee, Carolee Carmello, and Anthony Rapp will be taking the time to meet with fans.

Networking and Career Opportunities

BroadwayCon attracts not only fans but also aspiring artists, students, and professionals in the theatre industry. This provides a platform for networking, where attendees can meet and connect with potential collaborators, mentors, or employers. For those seeking a career in theatre, BroadwayCon can be an invaluable opportunity to make contacts, showcase their talent, and learn from established professionals.

And the legendary BroadwayCon Marketplace is a one-stop shop to find all the best Broadway and theatre merch.

Cosplay, Cosplay, and more Cosplay!

Cosplay fosters a sense of community and connection among fans who share similar interests. The amount of cosplay I see at BroadwayCon is amazing. From popular to obscure, these folks know exactly what they’re doing.

Being with “your” people

What I often find is the most important aspect of BroadwayCon, is seeing folks connecting with those who share their passions. There is no better feeling than being in the same room with hundreds of people who love the same thing you do.

So if you’re on the fence about attending BroadwayCon, I encourage you to do so. The event annually renews my love of theatre and faith in the people who work in it. It might just do the same for you.
