Toronto's Theatre Passe Muraille Announces #RedDoorsOpen for Theatre Beyond Walls - 2022 Season

A recent press release from Artistic Director, Marjorie Chan, states TPM never left during this last year and a half of the worldwide pandemic. Instead in these past two years:

“TPM has continued to film to dream, to plan and to hope behind these red doors…We’re overjoyed to be able to share heartbeats with you again.”

Our Place by Kanika Ambrose | Directed by Sabryn Rock | A Cahoots Theatre & Theatre Passe Muraille Co-Production | MARCH 16 - APRIL 2, 2022 |This premiere from Kanika Ambrose is a funny, keenly observant script unveiling the lives of undocumented Caribbean women who go to desperate lengths to get their citizenship. A moving, timely story of those rendered invisible in a 'welcoming' Canada.

Scored in Silence by Chisato Minamimura | Directed and performed by Chisato Minamimura | MAY 5 - 7, 2022 | A Theatre Passe Muraille presentation of a Chisato Minamimura production in collaboration with VibraFusionLab | From London, UK | A solo digital performance that unpacks the hidden perspectives of Deaf people from the handful that survived the horrors of the atomic bomb atrocity in Japan in 1945. Survivors of the A-bomb are known as ‘hibakusha’. A cutting-edge, immersive experience utilizing visual and vibration technology. Performed in signed mime and ASL, as well as voiced. Up to 50 members of the audience will have access to vibrotactile WoojerTM straps that allow the audience to experience the sound of the production, as vibration. 

Crippled by Paul David Power | Directed by Danielle Irvine | A production by Power Productions Presented by Theatre Passe Muraille | MAY 12 - 21, 2022 | From St. John’s, Newfoundland |Tony finds himself on the St. John’s Newfoundland waterfront at a crossroad. Tired and grieving, Tony believes there is only one way to escape a life he no longer wants to live. His mind is made up, until a stranger appears with other plans. Recently nominated for the Governor General’s Award, Crippled is a powerful story about love, death, life and redemption. 

Bâtardes by Jade Barshee |Directed by Chloé & Jade Barshee  | A Théâtre Everest Production Presented by Theatre Passe Muraille  | MAY 28 - JUNE 4, 2022 | From Montréal, Québec | Born to a Tibetan father and a Québecoise mother, Chloé and Jade Barshee are in search of their own identity. A touching auto-fiction combining anecdotes, poetic monologues and video archives, Bâtardes immerses you into a theatrical world where the sisters’ reality and imaginations merge. Performed in French, with English captions.

They reflect on their impending doom and condemn the human race for evicting them from their homes.
