“This forum was created in response to the murder of George Floyd. After watching that horrific video, I wondered if I was doing enough.

I was in Asia during the public outcry that followed the death of Freddie Gray in my hometown of Baltimore. However, I was able stay involved through ghostwriting behind the scenes. This was the most I could do, but still wondered if I was doing enough. How could I do more?

Looking over my career, I know that I am deeply embedded in the economic life of our American theatre. With this truth, it only makes sense that I demand my cut of the profit plus tax. I began reaching out to every past employer in hopes of forming a coalition. To my surprise, everyone was open to taking action.

We are dealing with a global pandemic, economic uncertainty, and a cultural recall on the value of black lives. Interestingly enough, Broadway is dealing with a complete rejection of the "Great White Way." The entire power dynamic has shifted and it is vital that we not only get this new normal right, but be the leaders that set the standard.
